Chris Keohan, Founder and Principal

Chris Keohan is the Founder and Principal of CK Strategies. After working as a senior staffer in political, field and finance departments for multiple local, state and federal campaigns, Chris founded CK Strategies in 2009.

Since founding CK Strategies, Chris has continually expanded and evolved his business model. Today, his expertise and offerings encompass far more than political strategy. Working with developers, financial institutions, contractors and a wide variety of other business interests Chris is providing strategic planning for projects that bring developments of all sizes to communities across Massachusetts. Specifically, Chris has served as a liaison to local boards and elected officials. He has developed outreach plans and grassroots strategies to ensure the success of local projects.

Politically, Chris has served as a senior advisor to Marty Walsh’s successful Mayoral campaign in Boston, and to Deborah Goldberg’s successful campaign for Treasurer. He also served as the Executive Director of Treasurer-elect Goldberg’s transition team.

In 2015 Chris was the winner of the 1st ever Elkey Award for Campaign Strategist of the Year. The Elkey Awards is a bipartisan event that honored political operatives and candidates for outstanding achievement during the 2014 election cycle.  He was also the recipient of 2 Goldies for excellence in Mail and Overall Campaign for his work on Mike Brady for State Senate. The Goldies are a national award program that chooses and judges entries with a bipartisan panel of peers within the political consulting industry.

In 2014 Chris was the winner of three prestigious “Pollie Awards” from the American Association of Political Consultants for his role in Marty Walsh’s campaign for Mayor. In 2012, Chris was honored to receive the prestigious “Rising Star Award” by Campaigns and Elections Magazine. He has also received the “National Comeback Campaign of the Year” for his work on Ayanna Pressley’s 2011 campaign for Boston City Council At-Large.

Chris Keohan is a 2003 graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a concentration on Environmental Studies. He has worked on campaigns in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Virginia, as well as traveling to 35+ states performing advance work during multiple Presidential campaigns. He currently serves on the Massachusetts Board of Directors for Generation Citizen, a national organization that envisions a country of young people working as active and effective citizens to collectively rebuild our American democracy.

Kate Norton brings over 10 years of communications experience to CK Strategies, with a strong and proven track record of success in a range of sectors, from state and municipal government, to union and political campaigns, to philanthropy and the private sector.

Most recently, Kate served as press secretary to Mayor Martin J. Walsh, where she managed media relations and communications strategy for all departments of the City of Boston. Prior to her municipal government service, Kate served as press secretary for Marty Walsh’s successful campaign to become the first new Mayor of Boston in two decades. Following Mayor Walsh’s election, Kate was responsible for all communications strategy related to Mayor Walsh’s transition to office and inaugural events leading up to his swearing-in as the 54th Mayor of Boston.

Before joining Mayor Walsh’s team, Kate served as a Communications Specialist for new organizing efforts for 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. Kate has served in key strategic communications roles for The Boston Foundation, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, and has advised and contributed to communications strategy for a wide range of federal, state and municipal political campaigns.

Kate is a 2004 graduate of Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications, with a concentration in Public Relations. She is a lifelong resident of Greater Boston, currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Labouré Child Care Center in South Boston, and is an active volunteer and fundraiser for Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA).

 

Shawn Duhamel, Vice President of Government and Public Affairs

With nearly twenty-five years of experience in the public, private and nonprofit sectors Shawn Duhamel offers a wealth of knowledge bridging the gap between grassroots advocacy, coalition building, policy creation and digital communications.

After beginning his career as a legislative assistant with the Massachusetts General Court, Shawn has gone on to serve in key roles in the formulation of public pension, Social Security and health care policy for more than twenty years. As Legislative Director for the Mass Retirees Association, he is responsible for government relations at the federal, state and local levels on behalf of over 62,000 retired Massachusetts public employees. Since 1998, Shawn has served as a trustee on the Town of Plymouth Retirement Board. He is also an elected member of the executive board of the Mass. Association of Contributory Retirement Systems (MACRS), as well as a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mass Labor Advisory Board. He was also appointed to the Special Commission on Retiree Healthcare Reform by former Governor Deval Patrick. Shawn is a sought after public speaker on retirement, health care and coalition building.

A pioneer in the use of new media to increase transparency and enhance dialog, Shawn founded Old Colony Group in 2005. The digital media consulting firm specializing in political communication, website design, social media and digital communication strategy. OCG has grown to become a leader in utilizing the newest technology and latest trends to reach target audiences. Shawn has had the pleasure of providing a variety of digital media services to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Congresswoman Katherine Clark, Senate President Stan Rosenberg, Treasurer Deb Goldberg, Portland, ME Mayor Ethan Strimling and a wide variety of state legislators.

Shawn is also a partner at Chameleon DG Creative Agency. Chameleon specializes in all aspects of creative design, advertising and brand creation/management strategies. Clients include the Martin Richard Foundation, the Boston Bruins, Berkshire Communities, WS Development, College Hype and Boston Marathon survivor Adrianne Haslet-Davis among others. In addition to Boston, CDG has an office in Denver, CO.

A resident of Dorchester, Shawn is a board member of the Ashmont Hill Neighborhood Association.

 

Ryan Traeger, Chief Operating OfficerTraeger Head Shot

Ryan Traeger has over a decade of experience in digital marketing, advertising, and analytics. As an advertising executive for Arnold Worldwide he drove strategic direction and financial success for clients through integrated marketing campaigns on accounts such as ESPN, Activision, and Progressive.

While working on his MBA, Ryan founded Achvr, Inc., a multi-platform app that sought to capture intention and interest data by socializing life goals. At peak, tens of thousands of individuals were providing millions of data points to the Achvr’s database, which in-turn guided marketing decisions for companies like Coca-Cola and Greater Media.

As a recent addition to the CK Strategies team, Ryan brings deep integrated marketing knowledge, go-to-market strategies, and an application of entrepreneurial thinking to the political field.

Ryan holds two degrees from Boston College, with a BA in Communications (2003) and and MBA in entrepreneurship (2012).

 

Taylor Maher, Accounts Manager

Taylor Maher serves as an Account Manager for CK Strategies. In this role, Maher Taylor Head Shotbrings impressive experience with media relations and reporting, legislative analysis, social media strategy, and editorial and organizing content.

Prior to joining CK Strategies, Maher gained experience through her work at Rasky Baerlein, a Washington DC and Boston-based firm with a focus in public relations, lobbying, and public affairs. In this role, Maher worked on projects related to energy, sustainability, and clean technology.

Following graduation, Maher joined Adept Strategy & Public Relations, a women- and minority-owned startup in South Florida. In this role, Maher was involved with government and commercial industry projects.

In 2014, Maher returned to Boston, where she held communications positions with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and the Boston City Council. She also served in an organizing role for Boston 2024, focused on small business outreach and sport in the community.

Maher is a graduate of University of North Florida, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in communications. Maher has served as an active community volunteer with organizations such as the Special Olympics, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and The St. Bernard Project, an award-winning New Orleans rebuilding nonprofit. She currently resides in Roslindale.
